Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is part of four generations of the Robertses that reside in the Atlanta area beginning with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in theater from a young time. As a college student in Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he was a part of many shows. When he joined in 1953 the Air force and was spotted with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. Both married in 2005 and welcomed their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. In 1957, the couple quit the air force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter joined Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio after they moved their family from Atlanta to Georgia's Decatur in 1960. Walter as well as Betty Lou financed their own production of a local children's Sunday matinee show called Bum Bum and His Buddies. The Actors and Writers Workshop was founded in 1964 and ran for 6 years. In 1965, they welcomed two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
